Ranges, ovens & cooktops · Bothell
Some Bothell ranges still plug into a 1960s circuit; others sit in downtown townhomes as touch-control slide-ins. We repair gas and electric ranges, wall ovens and cooktops, and check the power or gas supply before blaming the appliance.

On the King County side of Bothell, the houses near downtown built in the post-war years and through the 1960s and 70s have usually had their kitchens redone more than once, yet the circuit feeding the range is often the one the builder installed. An electric range pulls heavy current through that receptacle and through the terminal block on the back of the appliance, and decades of heating and cooling slowly loosen those connections. The first symptoms can be puzzling: two burners weak at once, an oven that takes forever to preheat, or a faint burnt smell from behind the stove. Before ordering an element, we slide the range out and inspect both ends of that connection.
The rest of Bothell is younger. About 39 percent of the city's homes date from 2000 or later, and the townhomes and apartments downtown and in North Creek came with slide-in ranges full of electronics: touch panels, convection fans, self-clean locks and sensors. Those controls are sensitive to power quality, and the November 2024 windstorm left a share of them confused or dead. Gas ranges turn up wherever PSE gas reaches the kitchen, and with 47 percent of homes heating by gas, that covers a lot of kitchens. We repair GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG, KitchenAid, Bosch and Maytag ranges, plus wall ovens and cooktops, in all of them.
What you seeSeveral burners and the oven weak at the same time
Likely causeLoose or scorched connection at the range terminal block or receptacle
What we doCheck voltage on both legs, replace a burned block or cord, refer wall wiring to an electrician
What you seeTouch panel dark or showing an error since the storm
Likely causeControl board or its power supply damaged by a surge
What we doReset at the breaker, test the supply and replace the board if it has failed
What you seeConvection mode bakes unevenly or roars
Likely causeConvection fan motor worn, or the element behind it open
What we doTest the fan and the element, then replace whichever has failed
What you seeGas oven lights, then the flame dies a minute later
Likely causeWeakening igniter letting the safety valve close mid-bake
What we doMeasure the igniter's current and fit a new one if it is low
What you seeOne cooktop zone will not heat
Likely causeBurned element, infinite switch or a loose wire under the top
What we doTest element, switch and wiring, and replace the faulty part
What you seeHeat pours out around the oven door
Likely causeSagging hinges or a flattened door gasket
What we doReplace hinges and gasket, then check the temperature with a probe
A scorched range connection is worth catching early. When we find blackened lugs on the terminal block or a melted cord end, we replace the block and cord on the appliance side and tighten everything to spec. If the receptacle in the wall is burned too, or the wire behind it shows heat damage, that part is for an electrician; we tell you on the spot and leave the range unplugged until that repair is done. Should you ever smell hot plastic from behind a range with nothing cooking, switch off its breaker and leave it off until someone has looked.
Electronic ranges and wall ovens took the brunt of the November 2024 storm in town. PSE serves the King County side and Snohomish County PUD the north, and both systems saw power return in fits and starts. Some controls came back showing error codes, some lost their clock and settings, and a few never woke up. A breaker reset clears many of these. When it does not, we read the stored code, test the board's supply and its relays, and replace the board when it has truly failed rather than guessing from the display.
Compact kitchens bring a different set of calls. Manufactured homes, a larger slice of the housing here than in most nearby towns, often use 20- or 24-inch ranges whose parts are model-specific, so a model number before the visit saves a trip. In the newer townhomes, slide-in ranges sit tight between counters with an anti-tip bracket at the back; we make sure it is engaged when the range goes back in. Gas ranges in any home follow one rule: if you smell gas that will not go away, get everyone outside and call PSE or 911 from there.
Oven and range repair in Bothell runs from $255 upward, depending on whether the fix is a surface element, a sensor, an igniter or a control board. Those are starting prices, not a quote; the exact amount is handed to you in writing after the $95 diagnostic, and work begins only with your approval. The diagnostic is credited to any repair you choose. If the culprit is a breaker or a scorched receptacle in the wall rather than the range, we say so, and you are not billed for a part the range does not need.

Most range repairs are worth doing. Elements, igniters, switches, sensors, hinges and terminal blocks are modest parts, and a range with a sound cabinet and a clean oven cavity has plenty of life left after they are replaced. A board damaged by the storm is still a reasonable repair on a range in its working prime, though less so on an older model whose replacement board is discontinued or costs close to a new range. Cracked glass on an aging smooth-top usually tips toward replacement. Wall ovens lean the other way, because a new one must match the cabinet cutout. In manufactured homes, compact sizes narrow the replacement choices, which often makes a repair the practical answer. Whatever you decide, have a burned wall receptacle fixed by an electrician first, or a new range will suffer the same fate.
It can be. A loose connection at the range's terminal block or the wall receptacle heats up under load and can scorch the plastic around it. Switch the range's breaker off and leave it off. We inspect the cord, block and receptacle, repair the appliance side, and tell you if the receptacle or wiring needs an electrician before the range goes back into use.
Often. Cut power at the range's breaker, wait a short while and restore it; many controls clear a storm-related fault that way. If the code comes back or the panel stays dark, jot it down and read it to us when you book. Your technician tests the board, its supply and the sensors involved before deciding whether the board itself needs replacing.
Yes. Compact ranges use the same kinds of elements, switches, igniters and thermostats as full-size models, but many of their parts fit only one design. The model and serial number sit on a label behind the storage drawer or inside the door frame; give them to us by phone or in the booking form, and we can confirm parts ahead of time and finish in one trip.
Yes. Freestanding and slide-in ranges are meant to be secured with a bracket at the back so the range cannot tip forward when the oven door carries weight, a real danger with children around. Many brackets go unattached after a remodel or a move. Whenever we pull a range out for service, we check the bracket and engage it when the range goes back.
Most finish on the first visit, because igniters, elements, switches and sensors ride in the vehicle. Board replacements and model-specific parts may need a short return trip once the part arrives. Wall ovens needing removal take longer, yet are still usually finished the same day. Your estimate tells you which applies before work begins.
